Serie A strugglers Pescara have confirmed the appointment of Cristian Bucchi as their new head coach, promoting the 36-year-old from his role with the youth team.

Bucchi takes over from Cristiano Bergodi, who was sacked in the wake of Sunday's defeat to Udinese, which left the team five points from safety.

The club announced on their website Bucchi would take his first training session today.

No details about the length of contract were given.

The former striker retired in 2011 after a career spent mainly in Serie B.
