Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes was full of admiration for his side after they took control of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Juventus.

Last season's beaten finalists claimed a 2-0 win at the Allianz Arena thanks to goals from David Alaba and Thomas Muller in either half.

Heynckes described his side's performance as "outstanding" as they stuck to a gameplan that involved quelling Juve playmaker Andrea Pirlo's influence.

It means Bayern will now head to Turin for next week's second leg confident of reaching the semi-finals for the third time in the past four seasons.

"We prepared well, as you could see from our tactical approach," Heynckes told reporters.

"We disrupted their play and took Pirlo out of the game. Overall, we were brimming with confidence and played outstanding football, although you also have to be up for the fight.

"In the first instance, we're pleased we've won against an Italian team while keeping a clean sheet.

"That was top-class football for long spells, and an impressive result against the reigning Italian champions, who look odds-on to retain their title."

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was similarly effusive as he labelled the performance the club's best in Europe this season.

"It was a magnificent match. We can be extremely satisfied, not just with the result, but also with the way we played," he said.

"That was our best game in the Champions League this season.

"Obviously, we had the chances to make it three, but it's the result we wanted. We'll travel to Turin feeling optimistic.

"Everyone in the team worked magnificently and we always played our football.

"It was a super evening of European football for us. We've put ourselves in a good position to go through, but the return will still be tough. We must avoid arrogance and complacency."

The only sour note of the match for Bayern was a hip injury to Toni Kroos that forced him off after 16 minutes.

Heynckes said it will "take a long time" before the 23-year-old Germany international will be available again, adding: "This is obviously very bitter.

"It's just such a shame for a young player who has played great this season."

heyremind me of Utd's treble winning side. Swashbuckling and risk prone. We ha Jaap Stam to paper over the cracks at the back though. Not sure they have their Jaap yet.

he solution is to not feel sorry for any of Jabba, Gold or Sullivan. They're all deeply unpleasant and all deserve each other. If only West Ham would sign Barton and Suarez then no one would ever need to despise any other club.
