Coach Andrea Stramaccioni hopes he will be part of the "new Inter Milan" as the Nerazzurri board plan for a brighter future at the end of a disastrous Serie A season.

The 37-year-old tactician expects to sit down with club president Massimo Moratti in the coming days to ruminate on a ninth-placed finish - an outcome confirmed by last night's 5-2 home defeat to Udinese - and his own long-term prospects at San Siro.

An injury-stricken Inter side were 2-0 down inside 10 minutes after goals from Giampiero Pinzi and Maurizio Domizzi, with Udinese brushing off strikes from Juan Jesus and Tommaso Rocchi to cruise towards a 5-2 win as Antonio Di Natale, Gabriel Silva and Luis Muriel found the target.

On Sunday, Stramaccioni told inter.it: "I think that once we were out of the running for Europe all we could do was hope to finish the year as best as possible. We can't be judged on today.

"We were missing too many players, especially in central defence, and after 10 minutes Udinese had taken full advantage of two mistakes of ours.

"Now we must move on quickly. I don't think today's game will change the way our end of season is judged."

The Milan giants miss out on European football for the first time since the 1999-2000 campaign by clocking their lowest finish in the top flight since it was expanded to feature 20 clubs in 2004.

"Is it a relief now that the season is over?" Stramaccioni added. "The last two months have been extremely tough for us. We've tried to just get on with it but it's been very tough.

"The most important thing we can do now is turn the page on a very negative season in which all sorts of things have happened.

"Has Moratti given me guarantees? Inter is Massimo Moratti. What matters most now is that we don't get anything wrong in building the new Inter Milan.

"Everything is in the head and the words of our president."

When asked if a record of eight defeats from 11 games in the limp to the finish line makes his position untenable, Stramaccioni said: "Results matter in football and we've done badly in the last two months.

"But I can't not consider what's happened to us in any assessment of the team. Not only for me but for the players.

"We've had to play people out of position, field a string of youngsters - we've had five centre-backs out through injury.

"I think Moratti has very clear ideas about how to rebuild and from (Monday) he'll be working on that.

"Have I been officially confirmed? I can't speak for Moratti, it's only right that he should be the one to speak."

terling needs to be told though that upon entering the Arsenal squad he will re-enact the final scene from Highlander where he will be thrown around a warehouse by cartoon dragons and then be a mere mortal that will only ever spend three to four weeks a season playing football and the rest on the physio's bed. There can be only one.....player available at The Emirates.

he game changed in our favour when Carrick came on. We were able to play further up the pitch due to having a player who can give and go with the ball and keep possession. Yet barkley made some runs and Townsend scored a good goal but carrick's inclusion and chiellini's withdrawal made the biggest difference to the flow of the game

o, you've not silenced anyone Andros, i'm afraid. We know you can score a great goal, and it's really handy to have your direct running and willingness to shoot on the bench. But until you can do the other things expected of a winger (beat the man, put a decent cross in, stay wide etc) then you can't expect more than a regular cameo. Wonderful goal though, what a hit! No wonder Buffon wanted the shirt.
