Inter Milan have confirmed Matias Silvestre's departure to city rivals AC Milan on a season-long loan deal.
The 28-year-old Argentinian is understood to have switched allegiances at San Siro earlier this week but the move has only this afternoon been confirmed by the Nerazzurri.
A statement published on inter.it read: "Inter Milan announce that Argentinian defender Matias Silvestre has been allowed to join AC Milan on loan with the option to buy."
Silvestre managed 20 appearances in all competitions for Inter following his arrival from Palermo in July 2012, and Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani today revealed the Rossoneri had also been chasing the Mercedes-born centre-back last summer.
He told the Corriere dello Sport: "In the summer of 2012, after we sold Thiago Silva (to Paris St Germain), Silvestre was our target but we moved too late. We are talking about a very good player."
Milan, who lost 5-3 to Manchester City in the Audi Cup in Munich last night, fly to the United States to take part in the International Champions Cup this weekend.
