Local media claimed Petkovic had stepped down after the loss in Bergamo - Lazio's third league defeat of the season - saw them slip to ninth in the standings.

However, a statement from the club read: "With regards to the reports that came out last night regarding the possible resignation of coach Vladimir Petkovic, SS Lazio announces that the news is unfounded."

Petkovic joined the capital club in June 2012 from Swiss side Sion and led the Romans to Coppa Italia glory last term.

Lazio travel to Cyprus to face Apollon Limassol in the Europa League on Thursday before hosting Cagliari three days later.
