Jones led his side to promotion from the third tier in May when his side pipped city rivals Sheffield United to the second automatic promotion spot, but Wednesday have struggled after a promising start this season, winning four of their 16 games to lie just two points above the relegation zone

"There's a lot of good players there, but we're in a division that is sometimes unforgiving and you do make mistakes," said the former Southampton and Cardiff manager.

"We got away with a lot of things last year, but we won't this year because of the quality there is at this level.

"We have to take our chances, we're creating a lot, but we have to keep the backdoor shut as well."
