Anthony Gardner: High expectations

The Owls ended a seven-game losing streak with victory at Oakwell and the defender reckons they must reward fans back on home soil when they face Charlton on Saturday.

"We need to give the fans an opportunity to get behind us by putting in a performance," he told the club's official website.

"By doing that, I think away teams will find it much more difficult to come to Hillsborough. The fact is we have to start winning at home again. I have been to Hillsborough in the past and it can be an intimidating place to come.

"When results are not going your way, sometimes players may do things in a different way. When your confidence is flying, you do things naturally.

"That's where we need to get back to. It's up to us to set the tone and make our home ground a fortress, which is what it should be.

"I played at a big club in Tottenham so I know what it is like to play in front of a crowd with big expectations. But that is what all players thrive on and with our support, we can turn our situation around."
