The Portuguese midfielder was dismissed in the closing stages of Saturday's match for an apparent two-footed tackle on Bolton's Jay Spearing.

Owls boss Dave Jones was unhappy with referee Chris Foy's decision, but the red card has been upheld and Semedo will now serve a three-match ban.

A statement on the club's website read: "Sheffield Wednesday have lost their appeal to the FA relating to the dismissal of Jose Semedo at Bolton on Saturday.

"The decision was upheld at an FA meeting on Tuesday and Semedo will serve a three-match ban that will encompass games against Barnsley, Reading and Derby."
