Maguire only joined the Sky Blues at the end of November and was due to remain with the League One outfit until January 5.

However, Owls caretaker boss Stuart Gray has opted to activate a 28-day recall clause to help bolster the club's battle for Championship survival over the hectic festive period.

Maguire made just one start and one substitute appearance for City but will forever be remembered by fans for his debut matchwinning brace, both of which superb late free-kicks, in the club's 3-1 victory at MK Dons.

The 24-year-old is now available for Sheffield Wednesday's Boxing Day trip to Blackburn.
