The 25-year-old defender is currently with Cagliari, but he is being tipped to secure a move away from Sardinia.

Saints boss Nigel Adkins has admitted an interest, but with the likes of Napoli also looking at Astori - he does have a number of options.

"There are many clubs interested in Astori and among them I know there is also Southampton," Renzo Contratto told Sky Sports.

"Both the player and Cagliari have said in the last days that, in the event that an important offer came, they will evaluate it together and decide what to do. This could happen even in January."
