Jay Rodriguez: Enjoying life under Mauricio Pochettino

Saints' decision to part with Nigel Adkins, the man who guided them to the Premier League, was met with surprise by many - as was the subsequent appointment of Mauricio Pochettino.

Fresh ideas and a new way of doing things have, however, helped to give Southampton a fighting chance of staying up.

They saw off in-form Liverpool 3-1 on Saturday to edge four points clear of the relegation zone.

Rodriguez, who was among the goals at St Mary's, feels the Saints are a better side under Pochettino and claims confidence within the camp is soaring.

"We press high, we don't anyone respect," he said.

"We're more than good enough to beat any team. Everyone in the squad knows how to play and it's a great feeling.

"You can see from the way we've played that he's (Pochettino) had a massive effect on us.

"This was another fantastic win. Liverpool are a great side and have great players. Everyone is really chuffed. The squad and team spirit we have is fantastic and I think we are in a position now to carry on trying to pick up points and stay safe."

Rodriguez also credits Pochettino with having helped to turn his own game around, with his effort against Liverpool just his fourth in the Premier League since completing a £6million switch from Burnley last summer.

He added: "I have more belief in my game.

"Also full credit to the gaffer as he has given me freedom to go and play and express myself."
