Saturday's 4-1 victory over Hull made this Saints' best ever start to a top-flight season, beating even the famous 1983-84 campaign in which they went on to finish runners-up behind Liverpool.

Rodriguez's performances have caught the eye of England boss Roy Hodgson, and he will travel with team-mates Ricky Lambert and Adam Lallana to join up with the national squad ahead of friendlies with Chile and Germany.

Saints' stunning start to the season has surprised most fans and pundits, but not the team, Rodriguez says.

"We put effort and hard work into it," the forward said. "It showed in the result there that we deserved it.

"We went to third and we still believe we can be higher. There are no limits for us, really. We've just got to keep impressing and working hard."

Rodriguez admits he is hugely excited to be going to St George's to train with England.

"I am not sure what to expect," Rodriguez said. "I spoke to Rickie and he just said it was a great experience and that the lads are great.

"He came back from it with a lot of confidence and it is just an unbelievable experience. I can't wait.

"You look at the players. It is an unbelievable experience playing against them, so actually playing with them will be excellent for me."

One Southampton player who will not be on international duty is Morgan Schneiderlin who continues to be overlooked by France.

The long-serving central midfielder was last season's fans' and players' player of the year and he has been hugely impressive again this term.

Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino said: "It does surprise me (that he is overlooked) because he's a player that does have the same quality as the players that have been called up. He is a player that has amazing quality and I am 100 per cent sure it will happen.

"He needs to keep on working with the same humility, the same work ethic and it's a matter of time until he will get that call up.

"The only thing I would say to the French Federation is they should be careful because he might be able to play for England."

think that puts all doubts over Benteke's quality to bed. Can he do it after receiving the ball to feet, in the box, totally unmarked, on a warm, sunny afternoon in Swindon? Oh yes he can! This year is definitely Liverpool's year. YNWA.

ll very well selling all midfield and strikers but unless we bring anyone in that is better than what we had then it will be a terrible transfer window in my view. Sorted out the defense but our midfield and striker options look very light.

ove it when Jose accuses others of being defensive, cynical and playing to win. If I was Wenger, I'd get that quote laminated and framed - surely the biggest compliment he's ever received from Mourinho. You've got him riled Arsene - you're relevant again!
