Everyone has a guilty pleasure. Tim Stannard has managed to forego many of life's typical vices, but he just can't enough of Sergio Ramos. He opens his heart on the defender...
he day Tonys hat goes missing for some bantz will be different story altogether..
m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
afa has to be favourite for the Everton job now, surely :) He'll realise his ambition to live and work on Merseyside again, get the best out of whoever plays for them, maybe win some cups and be thoroughly loathed by the toffee fans. What's not to like? Go ead, Ken, gimajob!

He is one of a number of solid shouts for players that look old before their time. We also have the final words on lovely D-Beck and a rejection of end of season playoffs...
That's one opinion, but others give their thanks to the man. We also have ideas for a relegation playoff, happy memories of the season and a defence of Liverpool's campaign...

Great feature, although a little disappointed you didn't mention Sergio's beautiful hair or perfectly groomed eyebrows

100 caps @ 26! He's fantastic: confident, well-spoken, tough, a great leader, and able to play in any position well and scores more than some strikers. Ramos is always picking up the slack for everyone else (I mean you Pique) and at times he seems to be 3 players in one. He's not one to dive, more like the kind of guy who risks limbs, breaks them, stuffs them back in and keeps playing (remember the CL game when he broke his nose). I like that he's passionate/mildly insane, a true Madridista, and he'll call anyone out on their BS. There's a rather mixed public persona of him ranging from dumb pretty boy/playboy to brutish tough guy but he seems to be a genuinely kind person and funny off the pitch and not afraid to stick up for others. And not that this is necessary for a footballer, but the guy looks like a supermodel. More Ramos love please!

I've always viewed him in the same light as Pepe and Busquets. Fantastic talent, infuriating penchant for the dark arts of play-acting.

Ramos is an exceptionally good defender and, as you say a excellent athlete, but I just really don't like him. Every time I watch him play, he really winds me up. The niggly fouls, simulation etc just really put me off him. I understand that that is part of modern football but I would struggle to like him, let alone love him. Saying that, compared to Pepe and Sergio Biscuits, he's like Martin Luther King.

I fully understand your love of Sergio Ramos, and I agree with more or less everything you have said. However, what really made me fall for the guy was signing him for my career mode team of Fifa 12, where his roaming nature invented the position of 'central attacking wing back'. Many's the goal I remember him scoring from the left wing when he was supposed to be at right back. Can't help but love that.

I have to disagree. He is very watchable - you know something will happen when he plays - but I think he is a terrible player (OK, I know that is an exaggeration). Every time I see him play he is either sent off or at fault for a goal. Against Man United he was at fault for both their goals in the tie. It really boggles my mind that he (and Pique!) were selected as defenders in the latest world XI. Just because Spain don't concede many goals, doesn't mean they have good defenders. It's the midfield that protects them so well at all times.

I didn't expect Tim to ever write an article like this! He's an exceptional defender though. Best thing is when he plays centre half with Pepe it makes him look the sane one....

I always liked him, even when he played on the right, but I never realized he was that young! 100 caps at 26 is impressive, even more so when you think that he plays for Spain, who's been at the top of the international game for most of his career!

I like Ramos, but he does seem to like a good bit of simulation - I suppose its overlooked because its standard for Clasico players now. I noticed it multiple times in the CL 2nd round though. Despite that, he is a fine defender.
