The idea of a Spanish team having its roots in Bilbao would have plenty of people up in arms and would be ridiculous to many in the Basque country. ronmanager - Grow up!

I don't think Inigo Martínez or Illarramendi are good enough for the Spanish team. Diego Costa was poor because he hadn't played much with the rest of the players and kind of felt like a stranger to the team. His strong attitude is what makes him a powerful striker, and he didn't show any of it. Jese got injured and hasn't played since, which might have ruined his career. And Isco getting no playing time at Madrid in addition to James Rodriguez coming in is no help. A better XI than what here proposed: De Gea - Carvajal, Javi Martinez, Sergio Ramos, Alba - Busquets, Koke, Thiago - Iniesta, Silva, Llorente (or Negredo, or Morata, or Rodrigo)

I remember 4 years ago, the same was said of the Spainish model. These guys are going to dominate and little blokes are the answer to the beautiful. Every country has its cycles. Germany and Spain cashed in on theirs. I am sure other teams will adapt and come back better and stronger. 4 years is a long time in football. Injurys, wonderkids and so on so forth. As mentioned by previous posters, Argentina were playing with 9 men at times for about 40 mins (messi was on empty, aguero was a mistake, he did not look fit IMO). They did have their clucth moments and should have scored, The pony tailed bloke who name eludes me had his chances. He coukld have put himself in a position to not pay for any drinks for therest of his life. Argentina had 1 less rest day and played an extra 30 mins of football to get to the final. These are the little margins that define winning and losing. There was not much between the 2 teams as mentioned as mentioned between the 2 teams. One team have an extra starabove their badge and the other have not.

Germany could have easily lost to Argentina as the other way around. There was nothing between them. Actually Argentina played with 10 men as Kun Aguero is to football what Rap is to Music. Also keep in mind that a Brazil captained by David Luiz is the equivalent of putting a poodle in charge of a flowerpot, so dont take that result as anything other than the anomily it was. Lets not get carried away with this Germany dominating for years to come thing. They can lose on any given day and actually looked quite poor at the back at times.

So just anyone who didnt play at this world cup? Talk about reactionary. Why on earth would you leave out players like Iniesta and Fabregas? Just because they were involved in 2 losses? Gosh

icky van Wolfswinkel's remarkable record of one goal from one game at least deserves an honourable mention. And I'm willing to bet that at least one of Costa, Ulloa or Enner Valencia will earn a place on the list by the end of the season. Probably not Costa
