The Potters have won just two of their opening nine Premier League fixtures following Saturday's goalless draw with Sunderland.
But while disappointed they were not able to pick up three points at the weekend, Whitehead is focusing on the positives.
"I think we have done really well considering the teams we have come up against," said the 30-year-old.
"Obviously we are disappointed not to have taken the three points on Saturday, and we were unfortunate at Reading on the opening day, so we should have a few more points on the board.
"We have to be positive with how we have fared though because, like I say, we have done well.
"We want to build upon that though and go on a run of games now where we can try and pick up more victories."
