Pulis unhappy with referee

Tony Pulis had to bite his tongue regarding referee Roger East in Stoke City's 0-0 draw against Aston Villa due to the fear of punishment from the Football Association.

The Potters boss was disappointed at East's decision to send off Ryan Shotton for a second booking late in the game, which ended in a 0-0 stalemate at Villa Park.

And Pulis was particularly aggrieved at the dismissal given he thought Villa's Ciaran Clark was fortunate to get away with a wild challenge on Glenn Whelan close to half-time.

"I am disappointed with that in relation to the challenge on Glenn Whelan," Pulis, who was fined £10,000 by the FA for comments about referee Lee Probert in 2011, told Sky Sports about Shotton's sending-off.

"People will judge what they think in respect of Ryan's two challenges and the challenge on Glenn at the end.

"Goodness knows what the referee has seen and has not seen. But you have to be very careful what you say.

"You cannot criticise them. You cannot say they are doing anything different for either side. I am not going to say that, because they will take some more money off me."

Meanwhile, Pulis was happy to take a point at Villa to extend Stoke's unbeaten run to six matches.

"Villa have been playing with loads of confidence here," said the Stoke boss. "(They have got a) young team, everyone is having a go for them. We are pleased with the point."
