Michael Owen: Hoping to build on his opening goal for Stoke against Swansea

Owen has endured a frustrating season since linking up with the Potters in the summer, but came off the bench at the weekend to score for the 150th time in the Premier League.

It is a milestone he admits he feared he would never reach, but the striker is now determined to push on and make an important contribution during the rest of the campaign.

Owen has been linked with a loan move away from the Britannia Stadium, speculation that has been quashed by manager Tony Pulis, and the player has vowed to work hard and try to seize any opportunity that comes along.

"I did fear I'd never get there (150 Premier League goals)," Owen said in The Sun.

"You do worry and think it isn't meant to be but thankfully I got there and it's another good achievement for me.

"It's nice to do it and a good way to score my first goal for the club.

"Now it's a question of me doing well, training hard and then taking my chance when it comes.

"Hopefully the second half of the season can be a lot better for me."

Owen may not have been a regular starter this season but he feels the goal against Swansea could be a springboard for success over the next few months.

He said: "I've slipped down the pecking order with Kenwyne's recent form but hopefully I can build upon this."
