Bellamy, who worked under Hughes for Wales and Manchester City, does not understand why things went wrong at QPR last season.

"It is a good appointment by Stoke, it really is - he is an exceptional manager," Bellamy told Sky Sports News.

Bellamy admits he thinks Hughes' spell at QPR, which ended with him being sacked last season, was a blip.

"The QPR thing, I am still scratching my head over, I still don't get what went on there," he said.

"I don't talk to him as much. I expected as soon as they stayed up he would push them on but it just didn't quite materialise.

"He has gone into an established Premier League club who have been left in a great position by Tony Pulis because of the work he has done has been remarkable.

"The fan base is fantastic and there is a great training ground. The intensity, the work rate at Stoke and the atmosphere generated will suit Mark Hughes' football.

"The professionalism he has, he will be a great asset to Stoke."

don't see Neymar or Suarez wanting to play second fiddle to Messi or playing to support Messi in his quest to get the World Player of the Year award back.
