Speaking to Sky Sports News after their pre-season win at Wrexham, Hughes confirmed that they were hoping to add further to their squad - having signed just two players - Erik Pieters and Marc Muniesa - since his appointment earlier in the summer.

"We get linked with a lot of players more often or not if I have worked with them we get linked at some point," he stated.

"But we are in obviously the market and we will see what is out there and what is available and if we see something that makes sense in terms of the package and is the right type of player to add to the quality we have got then we will pursue it, but at the moment there is nothing in the offing but if we target the right player we will have a real go at bringing him to the football club."

Hughes admits he would like to do his business early in the summer, but has no qualms about working up to deadline day.

"Ideally you would prefer to have them in on the first day of pre-season but that is not always possible," he said.

"I have done good business right up to the last day of the window and up to the last minute and you take the opportunities when they present themselves, the transfer market is not easy to navigate and we are pleased with the two guys we have brought in and we will look at what is out there if we feel there are players out there that can help us then we will go for them."

Hughes saw his side win 1-0 at the Racecourse Ground, and he is happy with how his players are developing - admitting that he is asking them to play in a different style to his successor Tony Pulis.

"They are trying to work on things and it is a big leap for some of them asking them to play as I want, but we are not asking them to go against everything they have done in the past it is just a matter of knowing when to play and when not to play and we will get better as the season progresses," he added.

t's wrong to be making a joke out of Bender's name at the expense of gay people. It's the kind of childish, uncivilised thing that Football365 would deride and ridicule if it was another media outlet saying. Why is there a need for jokes like this? Does it make your writers feel like men? F365 might suggest that I 'lighten up', but it is genuinely traumatic for people who have been oppressed all their lives to be the butt of jokes, and to be told...

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.

f you want to take six points off Arsenal, then that's a great strike force. Can't imagine either of them showing much for the rest of the season though...
