Cameron Jerome: Charged with "a number of betting offences"

The FA have confirmed that the 26-year-old has admitted charges of betting on a competition in which his team participates, contrary to FA guidelines.

But it is believed Jerome is not suspected of being involved in any match-fixing activity, or that he has placed bets on games that he has featured in.

An FA statement read: "The FA has charged Stoke City's Cameron Jerome with breaches of its rules in relation to a number of betting offences.

"Jerome has admitted the charges. A date for an Independent Regulatory Commission to hear the case will be set in due course."

A statment from Stoke added: "Cameron has admitted the charges and will in due course attend an Independent Regulatory Commission, at which he will be supported by the Club.

"The Club or the player will not be making any further comment at this time."

The FA also confirmed that Accrington Stanley managing director Robert Heys has been charged with the same offences.

Heys, who has been at the League Two club for more than 10 years, has until August 9 to respond to the charges.

Tottenham midfielder Andros Townsend found guilty of breaching the FA's betting regulations in June, and was fined £18,000 and banned for four months, three of which were suspended.

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
