Butland signed for Stoke from Birmingham City in the summer but is yet to figure in the Premier League this season.

The 20-year-old has now moved to Sky Bet Championship strugglers Barnsley on a three-month loan deal and Hughes says the move will benefit Butland going forward.

"It was always our intention to get Jack Butland out on loan," the Stoke manager said. "It was vitally important to get him out to allow him to continue his development.

"He is an outstanding young talent and someone we have incredibly high hopes for. We will keep a close eye on him and he will come here on certain days to maintain the work he has been doing with us.

"It is a good move for him and he will learn a lot from it. He has the potential to be the next England keeper."

Meanwhile, Hughes has dismissed speculation over the future of current number one Asmir Begovic after reports emerged in Spain linking the Bosnian with Atletico Madrid and Napoli.

"It doesn't surprise me to see Asmir Begovic's name linked with other clubs because he is an outstanding goalkeeper. I don't know how much of it is just speculation though."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
