Juan Agudelo: Should become a Stoke City player by the New Year

The 20-year-old will become a Stoke player in January, should the relevant permit be granted at a hearing which is set to happen next month.

Despite FA chairman Greg Dyke bemoaning the lack of homegrown players in the Premier League, the Potters remain confident the Agudelo's age and the fact he attracted £5million interest while under contract will sway the decision in their favour.

Agudelo is set to move to the Britannia Stadium on a free transfer as his contract with New England Revolution, where he has scored seven in 14 games, comes to an end.

Following the culmination of his Major League Soccer contract, Agudelo will travel to Stoke for a period of acclimatisation while talks are on-going regarding his work permit.

"He can't wait to come over here and start playing," agent Gary Mellor, his representative on this side of the Atlantic, told the Stoke Sentinel.

"Hopefully, he can show everyone his potential because he can be an exciting player and one the fans will like.

"He can play up top and is a confident lad, one who can score some very good goals."

Should the necessary paperwork be signed off by the authorities, Agudelo will available to play from New Year's Day onwards and Mellor believes the signing will be a good capture for Stoke.

"Coming over here as soon as he can will give him the chance to see the training ground and stadium for the first time," Mellor added.

"It's also a chance to meet the manager again, while the fitness team will want to put a programme in place for him.

"At just 20 and on a free transfer he is a fantastic investment for Stoke City."

Agudelo, who hopes to be recalled to the USA squad for friendlies against Scotland and Austria this month, is eager to play regularly at Stoke as he bids for a place at next summer's World Cup in Brazil.

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
