The Potters had several chances to break the deadlock, but were thwarted by poor finishing and good saves from Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall.

The result means Stoke have won just one of their last 11 Premier League games, but Hughes reckons there is no cause for concern.

"In terms of controlling the game, I thought we were very comfortable," he told Sky Sports.

"Cardiff didn't really cause us any problems throughout the 90 minutes. But credit to them, they worked hard to deny us space.

"But I felt we were the only team that looked likely to win the game. We needed something to just drop in the box. We had situations where things didn't quite fall for us and that's the luck you need to take games away from the opposition."

The Stoke boss reserved special praise for striker Peter Crouch, who caused the Cardiff defence numerous problems with his aerial dominance.

"I thought Peter did really well, he's been playing well for us and he led the line," he added.

"It's a shame he couldn't take the game away from them because he had a couple of good opportunities.

"All in all, it was a decent enough performance and we've taken a point which has moved us up a few places."

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish
