Hughes: Stoke's form is okay

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes believes his side's form is better than most people think.

Mark Hughes' side have won two of their last 10 games

The Potters secured only their second win in 10 Barclays Premier League games as Oussama Assaidi struck a stunning late winner against Chelsea at the Britannia Stadium last week.

Yet only one of the last six games has ended in defeat - albeit a 4-0 thrashing at Everton - and Hughes feels there is plenty of reason for optimism ahead of Saturday night's trip to Hull.

The Welshman told the club's official website: "Take the Everton game away - please - and our recent form is okay.

"We are something like eighth in the form guide.

"That's maybe a little bit under most people's radar, that run of form hasn't really registered.

"But that's fine, we will go about our business. If it is underneath the radar, so be it, that might help us.

"We will hopefully pick up points along the way and surprise one or two people at the end."

Hughes now wants his team to build momentum following the uplifting victory over Jose Mourinho's title-challenging Chelsea.

He said: "I think everybody enjoyed last weekend, it would be wrong not to.

"I think everybody has enjoyed the atmosphere around the place and the smiles on everybody's faces never change. Wins make everybody happy.

"We want that to continue. We want more of the same.

"If we can go on and pick up points on our travels that will help us muchly in terms of final totals.

"As always, back-to-back wins, which we have an opportunity to get this weekend, would be massive for us."

Stoke were 13th in the table ahead of the weekend fixtures, a place and a point behind Hull.

Hughes has been impressed by the Tigers, who are managed by his former Manchester United team-mate Steve Bruce.

He said: "You could say their season mirrors ours to a certain extent.

"They are a good team, well organised. They have got a lot of energy in the side as well, so it is a big test."

Stoke have a doubt over goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, who suffered a thigh injury in training this week.

Thomas Sorensen, who has not started a Premier League match since the final day of the 2011-12 season, is standing by to replace him.

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

Please Stop Telling Us What To Think

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

Wenger hails important win

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
