Hughes is keen to bring in a new striker for the second half of the season and has been linked with moves for the likes of Hannover forward Mame Biram Diouf and Luuk de Jong of Borussia Monchengladbach.

However, he concedes that no deal is close to being finalised and has told fans that they may have to remain patient.

"It's well-documented that we are looking to add to our options in attack," said Hughes.

"We weren't able to do that in the summer, but we will try again in January.

"But there's no-one definitely in the pipeline at the moment and so it may be a long window for us."

Hughes is currently preparing his Stoke side for the visit of Everton to the Britannia Stadium on New Year's Day, when Glenn Whelan and Marc Wilson will return from their one-match bans but Andy Wilkinson will be missing with a heel injury

He said: "We will welcome back the likes of Glenn and Marc Wilson, and that will help us and we will make a fist of it.

"We are enjoying playing at home where we are getting great support.

"Andy Wilkinson is out injured. He's got a problem with his heel, so he's not going to be available for certainly a couple of games. It just depends on the severity of it."

put Ince in my fantasy football team, so it's no surprise at all really. I do that to players. Also responsible for De Jong and Upson being injured. Think I'll transfer in Di Maria just to ruin United....
