Higginbotham called time on his club career whilst with non-league Altrincham late last year to concentrate on media roles and coaching.

But he agreed to play a few more games for Gibraltar, who he made his debut for last year.

"It is a privilege, I never expected it, so it is something I am very happy about to finish it on an international stage," he told Sky Sports News.

The game will mark the 450th appearance of a 16-year career, which saw him play for 11 clubs including Manchester United, Stoke, Sunderland and Derby.

The 35-year-old admits that 'mentally' he has had enough of playing the game.

"Mentally I have had enough, the body is okay - but I am ready for new things now, and it is time for me to give it a rest on the playing side," he admitted.

He also revealed his career highlights, adding: "My home debut for Manchester United at Old Trafford was a great experience as it was the club I have supported all my life, scoring the winner for Stoke against West Ham which took us to Wembley, and my international debut for Gibraltar too."

Although giving up playing, Higginbotham is going to take up a coaching role with Gibraltar ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

"They have asked me to help out coaching in the Euros and I am honoured to do that, but everyone here is very honest and want to be successful, and if I can help in any way that will be great."

terling needs to be told though that upon entering the Arsenal squad he will re-enact the final scene from Highlander where he will be thrown around a warehouse by cartoon dragons and then be a mere mortal that will only ever spend three to four weeks a season playing football and the rest on the physio's bed. There can be only one.....player available at The Emirates.

he game changed in our favour when Carrick came on. We were able to play further up the pitch due to having a player who can give and go with the ball and keep possession. Yet barkley made some runs and Townsend scored a good goal but carrick's inclusion and chiellini's withdrawal made the biggest difference to the flow of the game

o, you've not silenced anyone Andros, i'm afraid. We know you can score a great goal, and it's really handy to have your direct running and willingness to shoot on the bench. But until you can do the other things expected of a winger (beat the man, put a decent cross in, stay wide etc) then you can't expect more than a regular cameo. Wonderful goal though, what a hit! No wonder Buffon wanted the shirt.
