BROADFOOT HOPES FOR UEFA BOOST

Kirk Broadfoot believes Rangers' UEFA Cup triumph can help steer their Clydesdale Bank Premier League campaign back on track.

The full-back believes every single player at Ibrox will be determined to impress Walter Smith between now and the final on May 14 in a bid to play their way into his plans.

Rangers have taken just one point from their last three SPL games, allowing rivals Celtic to move into pole position albeit the defending champions have played more games.

Extra-time and penalties were needed to overcome Fiorentina on Thursday night to secure a place in the UEFA Cup final.

But, rather than takes its toll physically on the players, Broadfoot predicts the epic win in Florence will galvanise Rangers for Sunday's clash with Hibernian at Easter Road.

"Hopefully the adrenaline does kick us on," he said.

"From a player's point of view, you want to do well in the SPL games.

"We have a UEFA Cup final and a Scottish Cup final coming up and you want to show the manager that you are ready to play in the big games.

"Hopefully it can kick us on and we can get the results we need to win the SPL."

Hibs are chasing a third place finish and a UEFA Cup slot for next season.

And Broadfoot added: "It's another massive game. Every game is massive for Rangers at the moment and that's the way it should be.

"But I think we will get through it, we will dig deep, and hopefully we will get the result.

"Hibs is a very difficult place to go. They are fighting for Europe, which is another incentive for them, so it's going to a very difficult game."

Rangers now face the prospect of playing eight games in 21 days - six in the SPL, as well as the UEFA Cup final and the Scottish Cup final.

"The league situation will be down to how we handle the remaining six matches," said manager Walter Smith.

"It's unusual for any team to have to play six games in such a short space of time and it will be down to how we handle that.

"We know that if we can continue winning the games, we will have an advantage over Celtic.

"Whether that will be the case after the next few games is another thing.

"Our hopes for the league championship this season depend on whether we can handle the remaining matches which will be played in a short space of time."
