Egyptian striker Amr Zaki is expected to join Wigan on a season-long loan deal after signing a new contract at Zamalek.
The hitman has been a long-term target for Latics boss Steve Bruce, but a move to the JJB Stadium appeared to collapse.
Zaki was involved in a row with Zamalek chairman Mamdouh Abbas over the failure to clinch a switch to the Premier League.
However, the player has now confirmed on his personal website that he will be allowed to join up with Wigan.
He has signed a two-year contract extension with Zamalek until 2012 and the club have agreed to his loan move to England.
There is also the option of a permanent deal at the end of the loan, which could eventually see Wigan pay a total of £2million for the forward.
Abbas told the Egyptian press: "Wigan will pay a loan fee of £1,250,000 plus 400,000 euros with an option to sign the player at the end of the loan period for an agreed transfer fee less the amount already paid by Wigan to Zamalek.
"Wigan Athletic also agree to pay the amount of £500,000 to Zamalek if the player scores 10 Premier League goals for Wigan during the loan spell."
