Kenny Miller admits he feared the worst from the Ibrox boo-boys ahead of his home debut against FBK Kaunas in midweek.
But the striker believes that by the end of the match, he had gone some way to winning over his critics and is now hopeful of better times ahead.
Miller has endured a mixed reaction since his return to Rangers this summer - largely because of the season he spent at bitter rivals Celtic - with some fans being openly hostile in pre-season friendlies.
"I was prepared for the worst, to be honest," he said of Wednesday's Champions League qualifier.
"A lot of things have been said and I've seen and read the negative things, so I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't that bad.
"I could totally handle the reception at the start and when I did come off, I was over the moon with the reception I got.
"Then again, some folk were saying that maybe they were cheering the fact that I was being taken off! But I'm an optimist, so I am taking it that they were cheering a decent performance.
"I heard a little bit when I was warming up but that was all. Let's hope it diminishes the longer the season goes on.
"As long as we are being successful, I hope it will diminish but if things are not going too great it might remain.
"But we are looking to win every game and we will win a hell of a lot more than we will lose or draw, hopefully, so as the season goes on that might just phase out."
Miller may have been singled out for abuse on the park but insists his life away from football has been unaffected by his controversial return to Rangers.
He added: "I can say hand on heart that not one person has come up to me on the streets and given me a negative reaction to coming back. It's all been good.
"There was a little bit of talk about me coming back in January but that was impossible because of the three-club rule.
"But since then there was always the chance and I knew there would be people who didn't want me back because it was only last year I was playing for Celtic.
"That's something I was willing to deal with if I did sign. I knew I wanted to come back and work with the management team, which I always said brought out the best of me with the national team.
"When you put Walter (Smith), Ally McCoist, Kenny McDowall and (Ian) Durrant together, it is a great place to come and work and Murray Park is a great facility.
"I wanted to come back to the club and I was willing to put everything else aside to do that."
