West Brom manager Tony Mowbray has confirmed that the Baggies' bid to sign Bolton defender Abdoulaye Meite is "dead in the water".
Wanderers were thought to be interested in a swap deal for the centre-back, with reports linking Jonathan Greening and Paul Robinson with the Reebok Stadium.
However, Mowbray said: "We made an enquiry for the player but we couldn't reach an agreement so we move on. I would suggest it is dead in the water.
"My philosophy when you've got an interest in a player is that you know what your value of that footballer is. If it can't be done, it can't be done, and you move on."
