Real Madrid are reportedly set to demand £17m in compensation from Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portuguese forward refused to demand a transfer from Manchester United.
Ronaldo's announcement last week that he would be remaining at Old Trafford heaped embarrassment on the Spanish giants and their president Ramon Calderon following their summer-long pursuit of the forward.
According to the News of the World, Madrid are adamant that 'they agreed personal terms with the Manchester United star at the start of the summer and insisted on the compensation clause if the transfer was not completed.
'Spanish media sources, who have become Madrid's unofficial mouthpiece during the Ronaldo negotiations, are reporting that Real president Ramon Calderon is determined to press ahead with the claim.
'Calderon might be prepared to waive compensation if he gets a guaranteed assurance from Ronaldo that he will join them next summer.'
However, that claim is contradicted by the Sunday Express which says that, such is Madrid's anger at being rebuffed, Ronaldo may never be allowed to fulfil his boyhood dream of moving to the Bernabeu.

"Why should Ronaldo cough up for Real Madrid? It was them in the first place that started all this 'will he or won't he' fiasco! They've got a nerve demanding 17 million - just because they failed to land Ronaldo, so they're trying to salvage some pride out of the shambles. Don't pay them a penny Cristiano, they're not worth the hassle they've put everybody through over here. Knowing Fergie, he'll put Real straight, they're jealous because we've got Ronaldo in the Theatre of Dreams and not in their stadium. Go find your own superstar and cry in your paella while you're at it!"

"This one made me chuckle.... Just imagine for one moment it's actually true (which it isnt). Talk about putting all your eggs in one basket. Well now they are all over Mr Calderons face. Happy election, perhaps a few more will get thrown at you. Oh and happy job hunting."

"As much as this report does seem to be a bit far fetched one thing is for sure, Bigdovbalby is quite correct, Blatter hates British football clubs and loves jumping to the aid of others. If the report is true, i doubt he will do anything about it. As for Ronaldo, deal or no deal he loved the spotlight, egotistical little p***k."

"Two key things to note in this article which may cast some doubt on it's validity - "News of the World" and "Spanish media sources". As soon as you see either of those, let alone both, in an article it becomes instantly obvious that the story is worth no more than wiping your a**e on..."

"This one should be interesting - how on Earth did the holier-than-thou madrilenos agree personal terms with a player they had not been given permission to speak to?"
