Emmanuel Adebayor refused to get on a Togo team plane because he feared it would crash.
According to the Daily Express, the plane bound for Zambia left without the Arsenal striker.
The reports claim he had persuaded his team-mates not to fly a day earlier because there were rumours it would crash.
His one condition for boarding was that the president of the Togo Football Federation should also get on.
He told the paper: "My life is very dear to me and, if we have to go down, we'll all go down together with the president.
"There are rumours that, if we get on, the aircraft will go down."
Adebayor refused to board the flight when president tata Avlessi Adagio de Mass said a family bereavement prevented his making the flight.

"You Brits are senseless. I remeber when I was a kid in the early 90s the entire Zambian football team died in a plane crash. The only survivor was their best player Kalusha, who was probably as good as George Weah at the time. Kalusha survived because he was playing his club football in Europe and the rest of his team mates were based in Zambia or in other Africa countries. Adebayor had a real reason for concern and I would have done the same. P.S. as for the 140k per week, there are some players on the three Lions squad who get paid mega bucks at the clubs just because they are British."
