Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf was left fuming after his side were held to a goalless draw at home to Anorthosis Famagusta in the first round of Champions League group games.
Bremen have still never won an opening pool fixture in this competition, although they had enough chances to see off the Cypriot side.
Schaaf rued his team's inability to break down their well organised opponents, which drew jeers and boos from the home fans in the second half.
"I am angry and disappointed because we knew beforehand what it is like to play against a compact, defensive team," said Schaaf.
"We lacked the decisiveness we needed to score the winning goal.
"We just did not take our chances well enough and lacked concentration in front of goal.
"We had five or six great chances and did not take them. The chances were there, but you have got to convert them."
Bremen travel to Inter Milan in a fortnight and then face a double-header with Greek side Panathinaikos.
The Bundesliga side have not qualified from the group stage since the 2005/06 season and Schaaf added: "The situation has not altered in that we have to go and beat the other teams."
In Group B's other fixture on Tuesday, Inter beat Pana 2-0.
