Gary Neville has attempted to play down the crowd trouble at Manchester United's recent Carling Cup tie with Barnsley.
Seven fans were arrested after the match, and catering staff in the United end were forced to barricade themselves in a store room after supporters became aggressive.
Some fans then jumped over the counter of the catering stand and caused what Barnsley described as 'substantial damage'.
Missiles were also thrown at Oakwell stewards from the stands, and the FA are investigating the incidents.
Despite this, Neville, who was sent off in the match, is quoted in The Sun as saying:
"The supposed crowd trouble at Barnsley was something out of nothing.
"United fans got boisterous. They do. But anything that happens with us gets blown out of proportion."

"who is being finicky now. knp_1000, i didn't spell the word wrong, i just used the wrong word. silly me. originating and representing are two totally different things. MK Dons were originally Wimbledon but not anymore, by the way are you from manchester and the surrounding area or are you a glory hunter"

"no richie the name Manchester United suggests the club originated in Manchester, which it did.
And those in the offices probably will be able to see some keys yes, of the office, house and car variety. Though i don't think that is what you meant. No what you meant was the Quays, you just can't spell.
You can refer to United as if they play in Salford if you wish it is a free country, it just makes you look thick, but then that is what you are."

"Anyone really care were United play? Thought not!"

"richie456 A) its Quays mate, Salford may or may not have its own keys, but I doubt you could see those from any long distance. B) The 'You lot play in Salford' argument is tiresome, let's not bore everybody with it. C) Even IF we did play in Salford (not getting into it) would that be significantly worse than having non-Mancunian players for example? And what would it have to do with Barnsley?"

"So now the Neviller is promoting hooliganism?? Ah sure if he wasnt a footballer he would be joining them!!"

"knp_1000 the name Manchester United suggests that they play in Manchester but then that's not true either. so i'll just go on calling them salford reds eh on by the way, those who have offices on busby way in the stadium will prob be able to see the salford keys, they are that close......"

"strange comments. very strange....if they are true (which they are probably not) I would expect further backlash, and an apology to the Barnsley staff who were scared witless from the fun untied fans who were just having a party or sumut.. :~"
