Torres: Struggling with fitness

TORRES LIKELY TO MISS DERBY

Debrecen v Liverpool. Click here to bet.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is resigned to being without Fernando Torres for next week's Merseyside derby with Everton.

Torres is still struggling with a groin problem which has ruled him out of the last two games against Birmingham and Manchester City.

It was hoped with rest the Spanish international might be fit for the trip to Goodison Park, but Benitez expects his star striker to be missing for another ten days.

It means Torres is set to sit out Tuesday's crucial UEFA Champions League clash against Debrecen and then the meeting with Everton next weekend.

"Torres had a plan of fitness that would take three weeks working with the physios," Benitez told the Sunday Mirror.

"You can see he is improving all the time, but I would say that he is still maybe 10 days away from being right.

"The next few days will decide whether he will be fit for Everton, but at this moment there are no guarantees."

"Vivek I actually just think its a lot of bad luck. Torres and SG have reoccuring injuries that I cant see them ever shaking off without surgery. As for the other injuries, plain bad timing that's all. Part and parcel of football. Look at arsenal over the last 4 years! They've had a string of injury plagued seasons, they've just had to get on with it. Chelsea last year too, lost key players, probably cost them the league. Utd have been lucky enough in fairness, only had a few injuries. I dont think its down to a different fitness or training program though."

""we get 2 injuries a game lately"

What the hell is happening at LFC. Benitez needs to look at the fitness programmes of each player as there is clearly something wrong. No team gets this amount of similar injuries, I can't remember a game recently were a lfc player was not taken off due to injury.......and what the hell is rafa up to with Aquillani, when does he plan to use him, what when we playing in the Europa lg and have no chance of 4th place. To me Benitez seems like a man who believes that he is indespensible cos the club cannot afford to pay him out if they sack him and he is now driving the club to the ground.....if Benayoun could last till the 83min dont u think he could have lasted untill the end....the sub should have been Aguillani for Lucas "
