Jon Stead came off the bench to ensure Ipswich's unbeaten run in the Coca-Cola Championship continued as they came from behind to run out 2-1 winners at Cardiff.
Peter Whittingham had volleyed the home side into a first-half lead before Jon Walters and Stead drove home to make it seven games without defeat for Roy Keane's side.
Five of those previous six games had been draws however, and Town remain in the bottom three despite the victory.
Dave Jones' side fell out of the play-off zone after the late defeat in a game which saw both goalkeepers injured.
Ipswich boss Keane claimed his side were worthy winners.
I've had my share of luck here at Cardiff in the past but with the chances we had today I think we deserved to win," he said.
"It was an open game but at half-time I told my players it would be a test of character and they have come through it well."
Cardiff manager Dave Jones was unhappy that his side failed to perform in the second half.
"The players never made the right decisions after the break and it was a game we should never have lost," he said.
"When the crowd went against the players they started to panic and some of them never wanted the ball.
"The midfield and front line were non-existent and we hardly strung two passes together."
