Bristol City have refused to comment on speculation linking them with England goalkeeper David James.
Reports on Thursday suggested the Championship club had joined the race to sign the 39-year-old following his release by Portsmouth.
Asked about the prospect of signing James, boss Steve Coppell said: "I can't confirm or deny that.
"I never talk about individual names. If a deal is done, I will speak about it."
James, who played in three of England's games at the World Cup, recently pulled out of transfer talks with Celtic.
