CITEH TO CHUCK A S**T LOAD OF CASH AT TEVEZ & ETO'O
With Barcelona claiming yesterday that Manchester Citeh have made a 'stratospheric' offer for Samuel Eto'o, the tabs this morning have a good crack at putting some numbers on that offer.
The Sun kicks things off nicely, with their insider information/guesses about just how much cash Citeh will fling at the striker.
They claim he will be paid a tasty £250,000 a week, which tots up to a rather chunky £13million a year. Not bad.
The Daily Star disagrees slightly, claiming Eto'o will get a mere £200,000 a week. Pah.
However, The Daily Express play spoilsports this morning by claiming that Citeh will buy Eto'o, but won't pay him that sort of money.
The paper reports: 'City insiders say that even though they are the richest club on the planet thanks to the backing of their oil-wealthy Abu Dhabi owners, they would not sanction that sort of mind-boggling contract.'
Both The Sun and The Star claim Citeh will pay around £25million to Barca for Eto'o, while The Star feels the need to tell us basically what we already knew by also claiming Citeh will pay the same amount again for Carlos Tevez.
VALENCIA IN, BENZEMA TOO?
Off to the other side of Manchester now, and The Daily Mirror claims United's move for Luis Antonio Valencia will be done and dusted pretty sharpish, with yer man coming home early from his holiday to have a medical at Old Trafford.
£16million will be the fee, and Mirror scribe Alan Nixon is sticking with his theory that United still want David Villa, despite the striker saying on a number of occasions that he wants to stay in Spain.
Over to The Daily Star now, and that paper claims United are 'in danger' of missing out on Karim Benzema, with some old friends skulking in from the shadows to nick him.
The paper claims: 'Real Madrid are now clear favourites to sign the 21-year-old after tabling a £28m bid yesterday. Manchester United boss Fergie's only hope is that the French club are holding out for £30m. So he could still hijack the deal if Real refuse to go any higher.'
OLYMPIAKOS WANT MICKEY
Here's a new one.
We have our own ideas about where Mickey Owen might be going if he stays in Blighty, but apparently he has interest from abroad.
Under the frankly excellent headline 'Greeks bearing gifts for Owen', The Daily Mail claims Olympiakos 'have launched an audacious attempt' to sign the crocked striker.
The paper reports that the Greeks will offer Mickey a 'bumper' wage to join Matt Derbyshire and Olof Mellberg, and given the paucity of options on these shores, it could be a viable one.
POOL GET SPANISH YOUNGSTER
Quick line from The Daily Mirror, and they report that Liverpool have beaten off (snigger) Barcelona to the signing of a wee Spanish whipper-snapper.
Jesus Fernandez is his name-o, he is currently on the books of Cadiz, and according to the paper he'll choose Anfield over the Nou Camp because he might 'get lost in Barca's system'.
The player - nicknamed 'Suso' is an attacking midfielder 'in the Cesc Fabregas mould', it says here, and could sign on (snigger) at Liverpool as early as next week.
AND THE REST...

"IrishKopiteMkI - You can't accuse people of being glory-hunters just because we happen to support a successful club. And as to your reference to Berba replacing Ronaldo and Tevez, he didn't have the best season last year by any stretch of the imagination, but I would take him over David N'Gog or Dirk Kuyt any day. Kuyt's ability to run has been mistaken for footballing ability and David N'Gog just isn't up to anything, and at least this year Berba will have a pre-season with the rest of the squad, unlike last year when he arrived on deadline day and was thrown straight in at Anfield short of any match fitness and not having worked with any of the players around him."

"Aitsa / cityslicker - truesay Liverpool have an awful academy these days - suppose because Rafa's policy is to beef the squad with established mediocrity, and not develop any youth players. Also fyi, the most represented clubs at England u17, u19 and u21 levels are, in order: The Arsenal (2018 World Cup winners me thinks!), Utd, Spurs, Chelsea and Villa. IrishKopite - you are an original glory-hunter - hypocrite with the complex!"

"And yet another yawnfest of a post from irishKopite, who seems to have a fascination with me. Again making cr*p up to support a poor argument of his. So would keeping Owen and Martins represent good business sense for Newcastle? Nope, I don't think so either.
Your persistance and repetition of calling me a Man Utd fan is laughable. It's almost as if you want me to be a Man Utd fan, your hatred of Man Utd seemingly outweighs that of the love for Liverpool. Deplorable."

"Of course, Sunderland itself does not have a drug problem linked to inner-City degradation and the loss of previous 'brown collar' employment does it STEED_8?
Oops, sorry, forgot you were a wannabe United fan and not a black cat. Worry not, you have Berabtov replacing Tevez and Ronaldo...
The future is bright. And if not you can don your Barca and RM tops like all the other non-match going, know-nothing glory-hunters on here.
I wonder what Roy would have made of JohnnyComeLately fans like you?"

"poppazee" you offer a great insight into the minds of the crazy toon army. Now I understand why you wanted keegan back at all costs and got rid of big sam when he would never have got you relegated and why you want to keep players that will have no appetite for the massive physical battles you will face in the championship and will also send you club down Leeds Utd's path. "

"poppaZee, are you off your tits? Now I know the city of Newcastle has a drug problem, but I thought they were dishing out free help and advice. You can't afford to keep hold of any of the superstars you have over £50k p/w. However, they are probably going to want to stay as as the board of Directors at Newcastle are as simple as you, it seems. Keeping on either Owen or Martins would be catastrophic for Newcastle, you're lucky Owen's contract is up otherwise shifting him on his extortionate wage would be impossible."
poppaZee
"owen could actually score some goals in the championship and he's a confidence player. we cant get rid of all our players or else we might do a leeds. i'd obviously keep martins though if i could only hold on to one player"

""Aitsa" - Arsenal and Man utd bringing players through the acadamey as are chelsea. Chelsea's academy ending up in the lower divisions but the other 2 aren't doing that badly. Our top clubs could be doing more but its not like players aren't coming through the ranks. Pool's used to have the best academy but not many seem to be coming through now espeacially recently. "

"I agree poppaZee; Owen should stay, preferably on the same contract terms and only play half of the 46 games next season for nigh on £5m per year. Are you part of Newcastle's board of directors?"
toon_madness
"PoppaZee - Owen can bugger off, he failed, the toon failed, we need to move on and the championship isn't in his brand values!"
