POOL TO TRY AGAIN FOR SILVA
Liverpool are reportedly ready to 'intensify' their efforts to sign David Silva from Valencia.
Rafa Benitez is said to have been encouraged by the Spaniards' apparently successful retention of David Villa, believing this will have enhanced his negotiating position in attempting to capture Silva.

CROUCH BACK TO LIVERPOOL?
Some world-class bulls**t in The Daily Star this morning, and they claim with a presumably straight face that Liverpool want to take Peter Crouch back to Anfield.
The price, as it would be for anyone else, is around £12million, meaning they will have made a theoretical loss of £2million on the great gangly git in a year.
The Star claims Rafa Benitez has asked to be kept abreast of any developments while Liverpool are jaunting it around Asia.
Spurs and Fulham still want Crouch after he turned down Sunderland, and that sounds rather more plausible to us.
ARSENAL AND SPURS IN FOR HUNTELAAR
Although Tottenham have cooled their interest in Peter Crouch because the "whole package looks expensive" to Harry Redknapp, the Spurs boss has confirmed his interest in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
"The lad is a very good goalscorer and I'm still interested in him," said Redknapp.
"I know of Stuttgart's involvement but I'm hoping we will still be able to do something. There's a lot of talk about who I may or may not be after but Huntelaar is the one I like."
However, The Sun says that they will face some local competition to sign the Dutchman.
'ARSENAL are ready to challenge Spurs in the race for Real Madrid striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar,' it declares. 'And the Gunners are confident they can outbid Tottenham with an offer of £16.5million.'
The paper also says that the Gunners 'are poised to make a move for Marseille captain Lorik Cana.'
SPURS TO MOVE FOR BASSONG
Back to Spurs. Although Redknapp confirmed his interest in Huntelaar, it should also be pointed out that the Spurs manager also expressed his doubts that the club could afford to buy him. While Huntelaar is up for grabs at a relative cheap price, Spurs' wage policy seems to be blocking the move.
'Tottenham's senior players are on a basic wage of about £50,000 a week, which falls some way short of the £75,000 a week that Crouch and Huntelaar are currently earning," the Daily Mail notes.
"Huntelaar is a fantastic goalscorer, as good as anyone, but I doubt if it will happen," added Redknapp. "Wages are difficult. We pay good money but we don't pay crazy money so it's hard. I was interested in Gareth Barry and Roque Santa Cruz, but we couldn't get anywhere near them."
With a defender now likely to be the club's priority after the injury setbacks to Jonathan Woodgate, Ledley King and Michael Dawson, The Times says that 'Redknapp will pursue Sébastien Bassong, the Newcastle United defender, because Sylvain Distin is likely to move elsewhere or extend his deal at Portsmouth.'
SUNDERLAND TO SIGN...
'Steve Bruce is hoping to make a significant breakthrough in the transfer market as Sunderland close in on Tottenham's Darren Bent and the Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh,' says The Guardian.
Sunderland have pulled out of the running to signing Peter Crouch - something they are perhaps now regretting following Tottenham's partial withdrawal - but are apparently close to sign at least one new striker.
'The club's chairman, Niall Quinn, is expected to hold talks with Bordeaux and Tottenham over the weekend and at least one of the players could be introduced as early as next week.'
SHEVA OFF TO TURKEY
Andriy Shevchenko's return to Chelsea looks like being very, very brief. The striker, back at the club after the end of his loan deal at AC Milan, has, says The Times, 'been offered an escape route from Stamford Bridge by Fenerbahçe.'
There are no further details other than that the Ukrainian 'has been courted by Roma and Monaco, both of whom were unwilling to meet his wages of about £120,000 a week.'

"Irishkopite...total loss on the 3 united players is 65 million? Yet another idiotic statement from a man who doesnt know what disseminate means!!! And i have to also say i thought your comment about seeing many great liverpool teams in your time of going to anfield was priceless!!! Considering you are 29, you would have been 10 the last time ye had a half decent team!! You are a fraud im afraid."

"I thought Nani was 17M and Anderson 18M after appearances and whatnot - which would surely be triggered by now after two seasons? Anyway, surely this summer has seen the most amount of 'un-disclosed' tranfers ever?
The one advantage of when a few clubs went PLC was that full disclosure to the LSE meant you knew exactly how much of your hard-eanrned cash you ploughed into the club was being frittered away on the latest mercenary, fake-badge kisser.
I'll clock the new one WealthyB. I did get you - didn't I? Just had a mental block on the 'previous'."

""theoretical loss of £2million on the great gangly git in a year." - What about the money reportedly written off on Crouch as part of the Johnson deal? Would that not push the loss up considerably?
Also not sure why you would call him a git. Comes across as a fairly decent sort."

"IKMK1...the net figure for Berbatov, Anderson and Nani was £65.70? And in fairness that was probably a bit of a rip off for Nani...(need to watch that decimal point mate some sneaky sod might pull you up on it!)
As for Crouch back at Liverpool, cant see it. Silva on the other hand is a good player, maybe a bit lightweight for the Prem, but he is versatile and will give you options.
Suprised that plantpot indi_manc hasnt been spouting his usual drivel, this being a thread regarding anyone other than his own team, he usually likes to get involved with some outlandish ridiculous crap.

"mufc73 - your post was having a depreciating effect on my interest levels fella, and then I read your penultimate paragraph agreeing with me ;) Also no worries about butting in on a thread, you must be the first person to ever apologise for doing so!
As for IKMK1's figures, I think the general consensus is that Anderson cost approx 17M and Nani 15M?"

"I cant understand why Liverpool sold Crouch in the first place cos he wasnt replaced and yes i do think that Liverpool could do with him.he is a quality player who's excellent in the air and has a good scoring record.we need a second striker up front with Torres to ease the pressure. You can be guaranteed of alot more goals from Torres then.Roll on August and white hart lane."

"IKMK1 I stand corrected, I was actually expecting Man Utds to tell me my figures were out!! Now I know why no-one was forthcoming... As for the ID I may need to even change this one soon!! Someone in work has sussed it's me and I don't want them knowing that I contribute here ;) However if I do make the change I'll be expecting you to pick up on it a bit quicker this time squire...."

"WealthyB - apologies for butting into a thread that does not concern my club but, your figures are out. Liverpool having bought Crouch for £7m and then sold him for £10m have made a £3m profit. If they were to re-sign him, they would still made a £3m profit but would also be carrying a £12m investment in the same player until his next 'event'.
If that next 'event' was a sale, then assuming £12m was the consideration, Liverpool would still have made a theoretical profit on Crouch of £3m. If Crouch left on a free then that theoretical loss would be £9m.
However, as the cost of Crouch would have been depreciated through Pool's accounts over the term of his contract, the actual profits made on the sale of Crouch will be higher than £3m, but without a live link to Philip Nash, I can't get those actual amounts verified!
In short, your point is correct that there is no theoretical £2m loss. As we stand now, there is a theoretical £3m profit.
IKMK1 - you need to get your figures surrounding Berbatov, Anderson and Nani correct. Berba I agree with, Anderson and Nani we will never know because the figures are all 'reported fee of.....'

"At the face of it WealthyB you may seem right, but Crouch never asked for a transfer and would have been due a payout of his remaining contract which would have been easily a few million."
