Coventry City

Michael Doyle - ready for Saturday.

DOYLE RELISHING TOUGH DOUBLE

Coventry face a stern test of their Coca-Cola Championship credentials at home to Bristol City on Saturday - but midfielder Michael Doyle is confident the Sky Blues will continue to prove their mettle.

Table-toppers Coventry go into their third match of the campaign as one of only three teams boasting a 100% record so far - and with Preston at Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham at home to Barnsley, the Robins appear the toughest opposition facing any of the pace-setters this weekend.

Doyle, easing his way back to full match fitness after close-season ankle and hernia problems, is impatient to play a full part in Coventry's campaign - starting against Saturday's visitors, who as last spring's losing play-off finalists were within one match of reaching the Premier League.

Gary Johnson's travellers are the first of two high-profile opponents in four days for Coventry, with Newcastle waiting in the Carling Cup next week.

Irishman Doyle cannot wait to get started, first of all against a team who could yet depose Coventry at the top of the table tomorrow.

"These are two really big games for us coming up," he told his club's website, ccfc.co.uk.

"If we can get the right result against Bristol City it really sets it up nicely for the Newcastle game.

"They always bring a lot of supporters, and I am sure all of our fans will want to see the Ricoh as close to capacity as possible."

Doyle reports he is confident he will soon be playing at full capacity.

"My match fitness is already coming back - I played a small part in the Barnsley and Aldershot games and have played some reserve football too," said the 27-year-old.

"I've had no reaction to either problem, and the medical staff are so good that I have 100% confidence that I won't have a problem.

"I feel ready and really want to work my way back into the team."

He knows, however, that is no longer a foregone conclusion for any player in the top two tiers of English football.

"Look at every Premier League and Championship club - they are all strengthening," he notes.

"We had to do the same, and that has shown in the way we have started the season.

"You can't do much better than three wins out of three, and there is much stronger competition for places."
