Derby are set to complete the loan signing of Polish international Przemyslaw Kazmierczak from Portuguese champions FC Porto.
The 26-year-old, who has nine caps for his country, has agreed a season-long loan and will complete the formalities on his move early next week.
And Rams boss Paul Jewell believes Kazmierczak has all the credentials to be a big success at Pride Park this season.
Jewell told the club's website: "This is a very good deal for Derby County and a signing that I think may well prove to be a great piece of business.
"Kaz has a terrific pedigree. He has experienced Champions League football and international football, as well as playing for Porto, one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
"He is a left-footed central midfielder who can certainly play but at the same time is very strong and very physical."
