West Brom defender Paul Robinson believes keeper Scott Carson should be handed an England recall for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Belarus.
And the Baggies left-back called for Carson's error in the Euro 2008 qualifier with Croatia at Wembley 12 months ago not to be held against him by coach Fabio Capello.
Carson has been in outstanding form for Albion since completing his summer move from Liverpool and there is a possible England vacancy as Blackburn's Paul Robinson is currently sidelined through injury.
The 23-year-old's confidence suffered during the second half of last season following the Croatia blunder, when he was on loan at Aston Villa, but he has been back to his best during the opening weeks of the current campaign.
Robinson said: "Without a doubt Scott is in the right sort of form and, if he is not in the England squad, I will be shocked.
"For some reason, some of the players in the England squads are not playing regular football. For me people getting picked should be playing week in and week out in the Premier League for their clubs.
"We've got some fantastic players in this country and, if Scott is not in the England squad, I will be absolutely gutted for him. He has been first class since coming here.
"If England are going to keep looking back to what has happened before (against Croatia) it will be their loss as much as his.
"Him coming here has been to our gain and it would be England's loss if they leave him out.
"What happened against Croatia is in the past. For players like Scott, things like that are over straightway.
"That's the way it should be. Mistakes happen but you forget about them and get on with things. By the way he is playing, you can tell Scott is confident and enjoying his football."
