Title hopefuls Fiorentina and Juventus had to settle for a share of the points after a 1-1 draw on Sunday evening.
Juventus looked the sharper side throughout and deservedly took the lead through Pavel Nedved in the first half.
Alberto Gilardino levelled the scores late on despite the Viola having one man fewer following Felipe Melo's dismissal.
Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli handed a surprise start to Sergio Almiron, currently on loan from Juve. Gilardino, Melo, Juan Vargas and Luciano Zauri also made their Gigliati league debuts.
Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri gave league debuts to Amauri, Christian Poulsen and Olof Mellberg, while youngster Claudio Marchisio was given the nod as expected to partner Poulsen in central midfield.
Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastian Frey was called into action in the eigth minute as he dived bravely at the feet of Amauri, who had latched on to Poulsen's long ball.
Marchisio tried his luck for the visitors minutes later as he launched a long-range effort over the bar.
Poulsen showed good vision to send through Nedved down the left before Alessandro Del Piero teed up Marchisio.
Fiorentina look disorganised as a number of wayward passes and mistakes created dangerous openings for Juve.
In the 19th minute Nicola Legrottaglie fouled Gilardino to give away a free-kick 25 yards out. Vargas touched the ball for the waiting duo of Marco Donadel and Almiron, although incredibly neither reacted, allowing the Bianconeri to break.
Just before the half-hour mark, the hosts again wasted another free-kick in similar fashion. This time Mario Santana tamely passed the ball to Juve's Mellberg instead of a team-mate.
The first real chance of the game fell to Del Piero who turned and half-volleyed an effort straight at Frey in the 33rd minute.
Juventus took the lead five minutes later following excellent work by Zdenek Grygera along the right by-line. The right-back sent a low cross through the Viola defence to Nedved at the far post who tapped home.
The Bianconeri had two chances to increase their lead before the break, with Amauri heading wide from Mauro Camoranesi's cross before Del Piero forced Frey into a low save.
Shortly after the break Prandelli brought on promising youngster Stevan Jovetic in place of Almiron as he looked to get his side back in the game.
However, Juventus looked in control as Fiorentina resorted to long ball tactics and created little.
Things worsened for the hosts when Melo was sent off for a second yellow card, but despite the disadvantage they grabbed an unlikely equaliser.
The lively Gilardino latched on to Luciano Zauri's long ball in the 89th minute before turning and shooting low into Gianluigi Buffon's right-hand corner.
The visitors threatened to regain the lead with chances from Amauri and Del Piero in stoppage time but the hosts held on for a point.
