Valencia midfielder Ruben Baraja insists his side are in the UEFA Cup to win it after being drawn in a relatively comfortable Group G.
The 2004 winners have been pitted with Club Brugge, FC Copenhagen, St Etienne and Rosenborg, and while Baraja urged against complacency he believes his side should be favourites to progress.
"It's a good group for us, we can start as favourites," he told the club website, www.valenciacf.es.
"We have to respect all the others because every team is difficult and we have the chance to do well in this group.
"The UEFA Cup is an important title, something always comes out of it in the end and we have a big enough squad to compete in three tournaments.
"The fixtures, playing away against Rosenborg and St Etienne, might be an added difficulty but not an excuse for not qualifying for the next round."
Los Che are somewhat fortunate to be in the competition after an awful season in the league last year meant they were close to the relegation zone toward the end of the campaign.
Victory in the Copa del Rey bought them their ticket into Europe, but despite being more accustomed to Champions League football, Baraja insists his side will not underestimate the competition.
"Playing in the UEFA Cup is a consolation we shouldn't look down on," he continued.
"It won't be easy to win it because there are some difficult teams."
