Sochaux and Lille both took home a deserved point in a match that only sparked into life in the second half on Sunday.
Sochaux youngster Slovan Privat got things going seconds after half-time when he fired the hosts in front but Michel Bastos levelled with a spectacular free-kick shortly after the hour mark.
Despite each side's best endeavour neither could find the winner.
The hosts, who had only recorded a point from four matches, were desperate for their first win of the season and came close to getting their bid off to a good start but goalkeeper Gregory Malicki did well to deny Mevlud Erding in the 12th minute.
Yohan Cabaye missed a good opportunity to fire Lille into the lead in the 24th minute when he blazed his free-kick over the bar from a good position.
Sochaux could have taken the lead seconds before the end of a dire first half as Erding stole in to intercept a pass from Bastos to his goalkeeper but Malicki just managed to snatch the ball away from the striker's feet.
The game was kickstarted into life almost immediately after the break with a well worked move by the home team.
Erding controlled Stephane Pichot's long ball well before releasing Privat at the edge of the area, who fired past Malicki.
The hosts almost doubled their lead on the hour mark as Erding broke free and found himself one-on-one with Malicki, who did well to snatch the ball away from the Turkey striker.
They were to regret that missed opportunity as two minutes later Bastos equalised with a stunning 35-yard free-kick which caught everyone by surprise.
Lille transfer-deadline-day signing Tulio De Melo came close to enjoying a dream debut as he could have won the game seven minutes from time.
A neat one-on-one with Bastos left him with only Sochaux keeper Teddy Richert to beat, which he did, but his effort just brushed past the outside of the post.
