Toulouse bounced back from their midweek Europa League disappointment against Shakhtar Donetsk with an exciting victory over Rennes in Ligue 1.
Andre-Pierre Gignac's close-range strike proved to be decisive as the hosts prevailed by the odd goal in five.
Rennes' Asamoah Gyan had cancelled out Moussa Sissoko's opener, before Daniel Braaten and Gignac put Toulouse back on top - only for Kader Mangane to set up a tense finish.
The game took some time to burst into life, but Toulouse were first to threaten as goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez palmed away Paulo Machado's fine effort.
Alexander Tettey was denied by Olivier Blondel at the other end, before Sissoko broke the deadlock in the 31st minute. Machado's corner was weakly punched away by Douchez, and Sissoko thundered the ball back past the helpless goalkeeper.
Jires Kembo-Ekoko hooked Tettey's cross wide. But Rennes did not have to wait much longer for an equaliser, Gyan chesting down Bruno Cheyrou's cross and volleying superbly past Blondel.
The visitors had the first chance of the second half as Kembo-Ekoko's corner was headed against the bar by Romain Danze, but Toulouse then regained the lead with two goals in three minutes.
First Douchez's poor clearance was seized upon by Sissoko, who set up Braaten to head home, and then Gignac netted following a goalmouth scramble to make it 3-1 in the 62nd minute.
Braaten could have killed the game off with 14 minutes remaining when he steered Cheikh M'Bengue's cross wide from close range.
Mangane's header, set up by a cross from Ismael Bangoura after a free-kick was not properly cleared, left Rennes with six minutes to find an equaliser - but they were unable to do so.
