Rennes coach Frederic Antonetti has urged his team to be "more competitive" ahead of Saturday's visit of Paris St Germain.
Antonetti was disappointed after a 1-0 loss to Monaco in midweek saw Rennes slip to 10th in the standings.
And he knows his side now have to discover a killer instinct.
"We were better than the Monaco team we faced," Antonetti told the club's official website.
"We couldn't make it happen in the last 30 metres.
"The problem is that we have to be more competitive. That doesn't come from one day to the next.
"The players have to realise that in all of the matches, we play to win. There is a mentality to be learnt. We still have progress to make.
"We are on the same points as Paris. I have seen them several times. They are solid and consistent."
PSG coach Antoine Kombouare was also unhappy at seeing his side drop points against Lens, their midweek clash ending in a 1-1 draw at the Parc des Princes.
The capital club were leading through Claude Makelele's 69th-minute goal until former Rennes player Toifilou Maoulida equalised four minutes later.
The draw lifted PSG up to eighth but they still appear to be struggling for consistency.
Kombouare told PSG's official website: "You would think it ideal to open the scoring with a quarter of an hour to go, but we were unable to keep our lead.
"It's a big disappointment because the win was in our hands.
"We have to find our efficiency in defence. We now have to get back to full fitness and prepare for a difficult trip to Rennes."
Rennes striker Jimmy Briand could make his first appearance of the season against PSG. The France international is likely to line up alongside Asamoah Gyan who returns from suspension.
