Lehmann - impressed for Stuttgart.

BABBEL IMPRESSED BY LEHMANN

Stuttgart coach Markus Babbel had Jens Lehmann to thank for saving his side a point and possibly saving him his job on Saturday.

Babbel's side struggled to a 0-0 draw at Borussia Monchengladbach, but the veteran goalkeeper performed heroics to keep his team on level terms and prevent them tumbling even closer to the Bundesliga drop zone.

"He was in excellent form," said Babbel.

Stuttgart's director of sport Horst Heldt added that his side had "not lost because Jens kept us in the game", while a decisive save in the 50th minute of the match also left an impression on Gladbach striker Rob Friend.

"I was certain the ball was already in and then Lehmann came out of nowhere," said the Canadian.

Nevertheless, Lehmann is unlikely to rethink his intention of hanging up his gloves at the end of the season despite his a fine performance like yesterday.

"I am playing consistently well, but I cannot be bothered anymore travelling backwards and forwards between Munich and Stuttgart," he told the Bild newspaper.

Lehmann bought a home in the Munich suburbs when he joined Stuttgart 18 months ago and has been travelling the 140 miles between the two cities almost on a daily basis, sometimes arriving for training by helicopter.
