Inter Milan will not sign FC Twente's Marko Arnautovic this summer but may return for the striker in January according to the Dutch club's chairman Joop Munsterman.
Munsterman believes the Serie A champions remain interested in the 20-year-old forward but will first see how he recovers from a recent foot injury.
"Both clubs agreed on the transfer fee, but Inter now wants to wait and see if Marko fully recovers from the stress fracture in his right foot," said Munsterman.
"During the winter break they will return for him."
Arnautovic, who is also thought to have agreed personal terms with Nerazurri, picked up the injury in the KNVB beker cup final against Heerenveen on May 17.
(re-opens) The Austria forward, who is under contract with Twente until June 2012, appears to have his heart set on a move to the San Siro.
"One thing is certain, Marko only has Inter in his mind," his agent Peter Baars told calciomercato.it.
"He is not looking at other clubs as he only wants to join the Nerazzurri.
"The two clubs are negotiating but in order to reach an agreement, it is necessary that they return to the negotiating table."
Arnautovic, who joined Twente in 2006, has played 56 league games and scored 12 goals for the Enschede outfit.
