McParland - reminder for goalscorer.

McPARLAND HAILS SUPER WESTON

Myles Weston earned himself a back-handed compliment from Notts County boss Ian McParland after clinching a 1-0 extra-time victory over Championship side Doncaster with his first senior goal.

Weston, introduced as a substitute after 66 minutes, turned the game with his pace and trickery and he fittingly applied the knockout blow after 106 minutes after a neat one-two with Jay Smith.

McParland was grateful for the 20-year-old's intervention but believes it was long overdue.

"Myles always threatens but until now he has never delivered. It was about time he got us a goal.

"He's a very challenging boy who needs to believe more in his own ability. Maybe now he will start to do so.

"It was a fantastic win for us against a very good team. We changed our shape in 4-3-3 because we knew they would have played us off the park had we gone with our normal 4-4-2.

"And the players adapted so well that we had to get Myles on because I felt if we could step things up we would have a sniff at winning the game.

"I had to be honest and say that I didn't enjoy too many games last season. But I enjoyed our performance at Bradford on Saturday and I certainly enjoyed this one."

Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll conceded that his lower-league opponents were deserving of their win.

"Notts County were the better team tonight. Although we dug in as much as we could they managed to contain us and frustrate us.

"In all honesty I think we should have been pleased to see it go to penalties but they got the goal that they deserved.

"We've got to give them some credit because they deserved the victory and we go away with our tail between our legs.

"Everyone in the dressing room is disappointed, especially after Saturday's victory against Derby but the players are an honest bunch and they will hold their hands up and say that tonight's performance wasn't good enough. But we have to learn from this, regroup and go again.

"As the game went on I was telling the lads to be patient but we were getting more desperate and we made it more difficult for ourselves.

"We didn't carve out enough chances up front and they changed the way they played to cope with us tonight.

"We've got to take this result on the chin. We know we didn't play well but that wasn't down to a lack of effort or determination, but we need to turn this around quickly and restore our confidence."
